Magnitude-7.1 earthquake strikes off southern Mindanao Island, Philippines
A powerful magnitude-7.1 earthquake struck south of Mindanao Island in the Philippines at approximately 10:13 AM local time on Thursday.
According to reports from the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake's epicenter was located in the northeastern Celebes Sea, about 106 kilometers (66 miles) west-southwest of Sangay. The quake occurred at a depth of approximately 620 kilometers (385 miles).
Although the earthquake was strongly felt across central and southern parts of Mindanao Island, there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries. Authorities have not issued a tsunami warning following the earthquake.
Emergency response teams are on standby to conduct thorough assessments of any potential damage, especially in remote areas where communication may be limited. (ILKHA)
