Today marks the 13th anniversary of the killing of Ubeydullah Durna, Deputy Head of the Mustazaf-Der in Yüksekova.
Durna was shot dead while defending the association building from a firebomb attack reportedly carried out by PKK members on May 5, 2011.
The investigation into Durna's murder was initially closed due to the influence of the FETO organization, but it was reopened a decade later. Despite this, there have been no arrests or significant developments in identifying the perpetrators.
Durna had previously made repairs to the Mustazaf-Der building after prior attacks. On the day of his death, he rushed back to the association upon hearing news of another attack. The association and its members, including Durna, were targeted by PKK and BDP supporters.
The attackers used Molotov cocktails to set the building ablaze, trapping those inside. Durna and others attempted to defend themselves, but the attackers returned with reinforcements and weapons. As a last resort, they took refuge on the roof, where they were shot at by gunmen lying in wait. Durna was killed in this attack, which reportedly unfolded in view of police and was captured on security cameras.
Thirteen years later, the search for justice for Durna continues. The perpetrators remain at large, and the case nearly reached the statute of limitations with minimal progress. (ILKHA)
