Afghan Deputy Economy Minister urges EU to provide greater economic support

Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Mawlawi Mohammad Alam Jamil, has called on the European Union and its member states to deepen economic cooperation and continue their humanitarian and development support for the Afghan people.
The appeal came during a meeting in Kabul with Hansen René Taus, head of the EU Delegation’s Economic Development Team. In a statement released Monday, the Ministry of Economy expressed appreciation for the EU’s ongoing humanitarian efforts and emphasized the need for expanded collaboration in economic and development sectors.
Jamil highlighted the Islamic Emirate’s ongoing initiatives aimed at poverty reduction, job creation, and sustainable economic growth. He stressed the importance of aligning EU assistance with Afghanistan’s national priorities, particularly in bolstering private enterprise, alternative livelihoods, and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to enhance local production and exports.
In response, Taus reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting the Afghan people, noting that the Union aims to complement its humanitarian aid with additional initiatives focused on improving economic conditions and family livelihoods. Key areas of support include education, healthcare, private sector development, and agricultural programs designed to empower farmers through alternative livelihood strategies across various provinces.
Taus welcomed the ongoing dialogue between the EU and Afghan officials and assured that the Ministry’s insights and proposals would be communicated to EU member states and the broader international community. (ILKHA)
