Türkiye’s unemployment rate falls to 8.0% in July

Türkiye’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 8.0% in July, according to official figures released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Friday.
Data from the Household Labour Force Survey showed that the number of unemployed persons aged 15 and above fell by 164,000, bringing the total to 2.83 million.
The unemployment rate decreased by 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous month, reflecting a steady improvement in labor market conditions.
TurkStat data also revealed a continued gender gap in employment trends. The unemployment rate was 6.5% for men, while remaining significantly higher at 10.9% for women.
The July data underscores ongoing recovery dynamics in Türkiye’s economy, with falling unemployment suggesting stronger labor demand during the summer period. Economists note, however, that structural challenges such as female labor force participation and regional disparities in employment remain critical issues for the medium term.
Further details, including labor force participation rate and sectoral breakdown, are expected to be published in TurkStat’s upcoming detailed labor market bulletin. (ILKHA)
