The area was put under a security cord after the incident while the security level is maximized and a crisis desk has been set.
Police have ordered all school administrations to close the doors of the building after the attack.
Utrecht Mayor Jan van Zanen, who made a statement in the social media account, said three people were killed in the tram attack and nine were injured.
Police say the suspect is 37-year-old Gökmen Tanış of Turkish origin, who was reportedly caught by the police. (ILKHA)
