Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday as part of his visit to Egypt.

The meeting focused on the regional situation amid the current Israeli escalation and explored ways to enhance relations between the Arab League and Türkiye.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the discussions were in-depth and covered the severe risks posed by the ongoing Israeli escalation. The leaders discussed enhancing political, economic, and other bilateral relations between the Arab League and Türkiye.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on several regional and international issues, with a primary focus on the Palestinian cause. The Secretary-General highlighted the need for the international community to protect Palestinian people, particularly Gaza residents, who face continuous massacres by Israeli forces. He stressed the urgency of an immediate ceasefire, the delivery of urgent aid, and the initiation of a reliable process leading to the two-state solution.

Aboul Gheit warned against the region's countries being dragged into a cycle of escalation and expressed his appreciation for Türkiye's principled stance in supporting the Palestinian cause in international forums.

The talks also addressed the latest developments in Syria, Libya, and Sudan, reflecting a broad agenda of regional concerns and cooperative efforts. (ILKHA)
