Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will visit Switzerland to attend the first meeting of the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, and then will visit Malaysia to attend the Kuala Lumpur Summit at the invitation of Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Erdoğan will visit Switzerland on December 16-17, 2019 to attend the first meeting of the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, and then will visit Malaysia on December 18-19, 2019 to attend the Kuala Lumpur Summit at the invitation of Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad
The Global Refugee Forum is the main platform for monitoring the implementation of the Global Compact on Refugees, which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018.
Erdoğan will co-chair the Forum with statespeople of Costa Rica, Pakistan, Ethiopia and Germany at the invitation of Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Various stakeholders such as private sector, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and refugees are planned to attend the Forum, which will be hosted by Switzerland and the UN Refugee Agency and will be held with the high-level participation of many countries.
Stakeholders are expected to announce their commitments to refugees and host countries at the Forum.
On the occasion of the Forum, Turkey will once again draw the whole world’s attention to her exemplary good practices for Syrians, who are under temporary protection.
Erdoğan is likely to meet some of the participating heads of state and government on the sidelines of the Forum.
The challenges that the Islamic world faces will be on the Kuala Lumpur Summit’s agenda.
The leaders will also exchange views during a round-table meeting on priority of development and challenges as part of the Summit, which will be held with the themes of sovereignty, development, good governance, culture and identity and justice and freedom.
Erdoğan is expected to meet with participating leaders, including the King and the Prime Minister of Malaysia, on the sidelines of the Summit to be held with the participation of Qatar, Iran, Pakistan and Indonesia as well as Turkey and host Malaysia. (ILKHA)
