A significant snowfall overnight in Bitlis, a province in eastern Türkiye, has led to the closure of 111 village roads, disrupting local access and mobility.
The snow began falling after a brief spell of sunny weather, blanketing the region and affecting transportation extensively. According to local reports, the snowfall was substantial enough to necessitate immediate action by municipal services.
Ümit Kurtkan, Director of Road and Transport Services at the Bitlis Provincial Special Administration, announced that snow removal operations are in full swing. "Our teams, equipped with 71 work machines and comprising 75 personnel from 10 different construction sites, are working tirelessly to clear the snow and reopen the affected roads," Kurtkan stated.
The ongoing efforts aim to restore access to these isolated villages as quickly as possible, ensuring that residents can travel safely and that essential services are not disrupted for an extended period.
Authorities are urging residents to stay informed about road conditions and to avoid unnecessary travel until the roads are cleared. Updates on the situation are expected as the snow-clearing progresses throughout the day. (ILKHA)
