The Istanbul Police Department has dealt a significant blow to a major drug cartel, seizing 3.8 million pills and detaining 19 individuals.
A four-month investigation uncovered a drug ring operating in Zeytinburnu, which was involved in the production and distribution of illegal drugs to other cities. In two separate operations conducted on May 4 and September 14, authorities seized a massive quantity of pills, effectively disrupting the drug trade.
Among those arrested was M.Ş.D., a suspect previously detained in 2017 for similar drug offenses. The other 18 detainees were also involved in the cartel’s activities.
The police operation also led to the confiscation of equipment and materials used for drug production. The suspects are currently being questioned by authorities, and further details about the case are expected to be released in the coming days.
This successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and protect public safety in Istanbul and beyond. (ILKHA)
