Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan to visit Iraq
Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan will pay an official visit to Iraq on November 2, 2025, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a press release on Saturday.
According to the ministry’s statement, the visit aims to further strengthen bilateral relations between Türkiye and Iraq, enhance cooperation in regional security, trade, and energy, and address common challenges such as border security and counterterrorism.
“Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, will pay a visit to Iraq on 2 November 2025,” the ministry said in its official announcement.
During the visit, Fidan is expected to meet with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.
Talks are anticipated to cover key topics such as the fight against the PKK terrorist organization’s presence in northern Iraq, the status of the Development Road Project connecting the Gulf to Türkiye, and efforts to expand bilateral trade, which surpassed $15 billion in recent years.
Diplomatic sources in Ankara indicate that the visit will also address water management, border stability, and joint security mechanisms — long-standing issues in Turkish-Iraqi relations.
Fidan’s visit to Baghdad follows a series of high-level diplomatic contacts between Türkiye and Iraq, underscoring both countries’ intent to build a “strategic partnership” centered on regional peace, energy connectivity, and infrastructure integration.
Observers view the visit as part of Türkiye’s broader diplomatic efforts to consolidate stability in the region, expand political dialogue, and foster cooperation among neighboring states amid rising security challenges in the Middle East.
The Turkish foreign minister’s trip to Iraq is expected to culminate in the signing of several memorandums of understanding aimed at deepening bilateral ties across political, security, and economic domains. (ILKHA)
