Türkiye warns of global escalation following U.S. strike on Iran's nuclear sites

Türkiye has expressed grave concern over the recent U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, warning that the escalation could ignite a wider regional conflict with potentially global repercussions.
In an official statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Sunday, Ankara condemned the strike as a dangerous turning point and called for immediate de-escalation from all involved parties. "The attack by the U.S. on Iran's nuclear facilities today has maximized the risk of the conflict — which began with Israeli aggression — spreading further and destabilizing the entire security environment," the statement said.
Highlighting its longstanding warnings about the dangers of regional conflict escalation, Türkiye emphasized that such developments could spiral into a catastrophic global crisis. “We do not want this catastrophic scenario to come to life,” the ministry declared.
Ankara urged all parties to act with restraint and responsibility, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent further loss of life and destruction. "All parties involved must act responsibly, mutually cease attacks immediately, and avoid steps that could lead to further destruction,” the statement urged.
Türkiye reaffirmed its position that the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program must be addressed through dialogue, not warfare. “The only way to resolve the dispute over Iran's nuclear program is through negotiations,” the ministry said, urging the international community to rally behind efforts for a diplomatic solution.
In a show of regional leadership, Türkiye also signaled its willingness to take on a mediating role. "We are ready to fulfill our responsibilities and make constructive contributions toward peace,” the statement concluded.
The comments reflect growing international alarm over the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran, with Türkiye positioning itself as a voice for diplomacy and stability amid mounting tensions in the Middle East. (ILKHA)
