HÜDA PAR Chairman İshak Sağlam has called on 5 Turkey’s political parties to use the money that they get from the Treasury for citizens as the economic impact of pandemic grows in the country.

Sağlam proposed that the government should give health workers who lost their lives due to coronavirus pandemic the status of "martyrdom" and that necessary legal arrangements should be made for the personnel affected by the pandemic.

“5 political parties should use the money that they get from the Treasury for citizens”

“The amount of aid from the Treasury to the parties in 2020 has been announced. Accordingly, a total of TL 419 million will be provided by the state to 5 parties in the parliament. We call on the parties receiving aid from the Treasury to make sacrifices in these hard times, when Treasury is empty and the public is asked to support aid campaigns. The tradition of asking only the people to make sacrifices must come to an end in Turkey. Instead of putting the money in their coffers, it would be best for the parties to use this aid that they get from the Treasury for citizens who have lost their jobs in order to create social sensitivity in the society. Therefore, we invite our parties in the Parliament to use the aid that they get from the Treasury for the benefit of our citizens who have lost their jobs in the name of leading the sacrifice,” Sağlam said.

“Coronavirus support packages are insufficient but they are important steps”

Speaking about coronavirus support packages announced by Turkish Government, Sağlam stated:” The economic measures put in place by the government, while inadequate, are important steps. Although health policies are at the heart of this process, economic measures need to be seriously considered. Measures of social isolation should not be allowed to destroy the basic infrastructure of the economy. Economic steps not taken in time will put society in great distress. Despite this fact, the economy is not being put on the agenda enough and the steps taken in this area remain insufficient. At the hardest times, instead of forcing citizens to borrow at interest from bank, the government should fulfill the necessity of being a social state and meet the basic needs of each citizen. Even in these days when people are facing death, it is regrettable for Turkey, where 99 percent of its people are Muslims, to force its citizens to borrow at interest from banks.”

Stating that interest-free loans should be given to tradesmen, producers, industrialists as a requirement of being a social state, Sağlam went on to say: “Under these circumstances, tradesmen, producers and industrialists should be provided with non-repayable and interest-free loan support for at least one year as a requirement of being a social state. Interest should also not be taken from deferred debts. Citizens under the age of 20 who are prohibited from going out but work in public institutions and the private sector should be placed on administrative leave. In this context, it is very important that the briefings should be made by the experts in the light of the experiences obtained so far. The notion that every citizen has to think not only of himself, but also of someone else, because of the risk of becoming a potential carrier, must develop into a social awareness. Sağlam went on to say: “For patients who have chronic disease and have to go to hospital (heart attack, oncological patients, etc.), certain separate centers other than coronavirus treatment centers should be established and referrals should be made by family physicians. “We call for the law to be passed by parliament with an understanding that will do justice in the long term”

Sağlam concluded as follows: “"In prisons, where social isolation is not possible to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic due to over-occupancy, it is unethical to discriminate between prisoners. From this point of view, we, as HÜDA PAR, call for the Law on the Execution of Penalties presented to the parliament not to be used in a daily policy and to be passed through the parliament with an understanding that will eliminate the injustices in the execution law and ensure justice in the long term.
