71 killed in Israeli airstrike on Tehran’s Evin Prison

At least 71 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Evin Prison in northern Tehran, according to an official statement released Sunday by Iran’s Judiciary Media Center.
The attack, which took place on June 23, has been described by Iranian authorities as a “full-scale crime” causing both heavy casualties and significant material damage.
Judiciary spokesperson Masoud Jahangiri confirmed the death toll, stating that the victims included administrative staff, conscripts serving their mandatory military duty, inmates, and visiting family members. Additionally, residents living in the vicinity of the prison were among the dead and injured.
“The magnitude of the crime is beyond comprehension,” Jahangiri said, emphasizing the indiscriminate nature of the attack.
Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei strongly condemned the strike, calling it barbaric and vowing to pursue legal action against Israel in international forums.
The airstrike on Evin Prison occurred during a broader conflict that began on June 13, when Israel launched what Iranian officials have described as an unprovoked war of aggression. Over 600 people have been reported killed, including top military commanders, scientists, and civilians.
Iranian Armed Forces retaliated with a series of strikes that reportedly caused extensive damage across Israeli-occupied territories.
On June 22, the conflict escalated further when the United States joined the offensive, targeting three Iranian nuclear sites. The joint U.S.-Israeli military campaign lasted 12 days and ended with a ceasefire, amid widespread international condemnation.
Iranian officials have called the assault a blatant violation of international law and pledged to hold the aggressors accountable. (ILKHA)
