Afghan Deputy Interior Minister arrives in Tehran for ECO summit
Mohammad Ibrahim Sadr, Senior Deputy Minister for Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has arrived in Tehran to attend the 4th meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
According to Abdul Matin Qani, spokesperson for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior, Mr. Sadr is scheduled to meet with Iranian officials and participate in discussions aimed at strengthening security cooperation among ECO member states.
The ECO summit, which brings together interior ministers from member countries, seeks to enhance regional collaboration in areas of security, border management, and counter-narcotics efforts.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Interior announced that the deputy-level meeting of ECO interior ministries was held in Tehran on Monday, with the main ministerial meeting set to take place on Tuesday. Representatives from ten member countries, including Afghanistan, are expected to attend.
This year marks Afghanistan’s return to the ECO summit, as last year’s meeting in Mashhad took place without a representative from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
The participation of the Afghan delegation in Tehran is seen as a step toward increased engagement between the Islamic Emirate and regional partners on shared security and economic priorities. (ILKHA)
