Afghanistan appoints new ambassador to Türkiye

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has formally introduced Sheikh Saneullah Farahmand as its new Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Türkiye, in a move officials say reflects a deepening of diplomatic ties between Kabul and Ankara.
The announcement was made during an official ceremony in Ankara, attended by Afghanistan's Foreign Minister, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi. The event brought together members of the Afghan delegation, along with Afghan community elders and religious scholars residing in Turkey, according to a statement from the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking at the event, Foreign Minister Muttaqi hailed the appointment as a milestone in Afghanistan-Türkiye relations.
“The elevation of relations to the ambassadorial level demonstrates the positive cooperation and mutual understanding between our two nations,” he stated.
Sheikh Saneullah Farahmand will now assume full diplomatic responsibilities as Afghanistan’s ambassador to Türkiye, a post that has gained renewed significance amid the Islamic Emirate's ongoing efforts to expand its international diplomatic engagement.
While Türkiye has not formally recognized the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, it has maintained open diplomatic channels since the Taliban took control in 2021, offering humanitarian support and engaging in talks on regional security and migration issues. (ILKHA)
