An armed man took 19 hostages in a branch of the commercial Bank of Georgia in Zugdidi, the western Georgian province.
According to the local sources, the unidentified gunman, who has an AK74 and a grenade, released the elderly hostages and several more people were able to escape through the roof and the fire escape.
Negotiations were under way and the gunman was $500,000 as well as a meeting with the bank manager, the police said. (ILKHA)
