Ship traffic in the crucial Bosphorus Strait was suspended on Monday after a cargo ship reported rudder failure near the northern entrance, according to the Directorate General of Coastal Safety.
The 64-meter cargo vessel, BRABUS, was en route from Trabzon to Bandırma when the incident occurred. Authorities swiftly dispatched tugboat KURTARMA-10 and rescue boat KEGM-8 to the scene to assist the disabled ship.
As a precautionary measure, the Directorate General of Coastal Safety has temporarily suspended vessel traffic in both directions through the Istanbul Strait.
The situation is ongoing, and no further details regarding the cause of the rudder malfunction or the estimated duration of the traffic halt are available at this time. (ILKHA)
