The death toll from devastating floods in Nigeria's Jigawa State has reached 28, Governor Umar Namadi announced.
The floods, caused by heavy rainfall, have also displaced thousands and damaged homes and farms across the state.
According to the governor, the majority of the fatalities were caused by building collapses, particularly of mud houses, during the night. The flooding has affected 14 local government areas, impacting an estimated 40,000 people and over 80,000 households.
Over 7,000 houses have been destroyed, and more than 6,500 farmlands have been washed away in over 135 communities. The governor highlighted the urgent need for assistance to address the humanitarian crisis and rebuild the affected areas. (ILKHA)
