Hamas denies involvement in Rafah shooting
The Hamas Movement has categorically denied any involvement in the alleged shooting incident in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, reaffirming its adherence to the ceasefire agreement brokered in Sharm el-Sheikh under the sponsorship of U.S. President Donald Trump.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, Hamas strongly condemned the Israeli occupation army’s “criminal bombardment of areas in the Gaza Strip,” describing it as a blatant breach of the ceasefire terms. The movement said the attacks reflected Israel’s ongoing policy of provocation and disregard for international commitments.
“These Israeli strikes represent a glaring violation of the ceasefire agreement signed in Sharm el-Sheikh,” the statement read, emphasizing that the movement “remains committed to the agreement despite repeated Israeli aggression.”
Hamas further said that the recent escalation is part of “a broader pattern of Israeli violations committed in recent days,” citing the occupation’s attacks that have killed and wounded dozens of civilians, as well as the continued closure of the Rafah border crossing — a vital humanitarian lifeline for Gaza’s besieged population.
“These Israeli attacks reveal a deliberate intent to violate the agreement and thwart its implementation,” Hamas declared, accusing Tel Aviv of attempting to sabotage the fragile calm that followed months of bloodshed.
The movement urged international mediators and the agreement’s sponsors to intervene immediately and exert “serious and effective pressure” on the Israeli occupation regime to halt its ongoing aggression against Palestinian civilians.
“The international community and sponsors of the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement must shoulder their responsibilities and stop this brutal escalation,” Hamas added.
The statement comes amid mounting regional concern that the renewed Israeli bombardments could undermine the ceasefire, potentially plunging the Gaza Strip back into another cycle of violence. (ILKHA)
