Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri has emphasized that respecting the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas is the only way to secure the release of Israeli captives held in Gaza.
“Trump must remember that there is an agreement that must be respected by both parties, and this is the only way to bring back the captives. The language of threats has no value and only complicates matters,” Abu Zuhri stated.
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened the Palestinians, stating that “hell will break loose” if Israeli hostages are not released on Saturday as scheduled under the ceasefire agreement. However, Hamas has postponed the release, citing Israel’s continuous breaches of the ceasefire terms by maintaining strikes on the Gaza Strip.
Hamas was set to release hostages gradually under the ceasefire since January, but the violations by Israel have forced them to postpone the releases until further notice.
In a move that has outraged the Arab world, Trump has proposed that the United States take control of Gaza, displace its more than 2 million residents, and transform the territory into the "Riviera of the Middle East." This controversial proposal has faced significant opposition.
Trump is scheduled to meet Jordan's King Abdullah on Tuesday, in what is expected to be a tense encounter following the U.S. president's proposal. Trump has also threatened to cut aid to the U.S.-allied Arab country if it refuses to resettle Palestinians.
