Hamas slams US veto as "direct complicity in Palestinian genocide"

The Hamas Movement has sharply condemned the United States for vetoing a United Nations Security Council resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
In its statement, Hamas denounced the US action as “blatant complicity and active involvement in the genocide being perpetrated by the Zionist occupation against the Palestinian people.”
The statement criticized Washington’s decision, saying the veto sends a “green light” to the Israeli occupation regime to continue its relentless attacks on Gaza City and surrounding areas, targeting civilians, residential neighborhoods, hospitals, and schools. Hamas emphasized that the US move demonstrates a continued alignment with Israel’s military aggression and a disregard for international law and Palestinian lives.
Hamas expressed gratitude to the ten nations that co-sponsored the draft resolution, describing their efforts as a vital attempt to hold the Israeli government accountable and to pressure it to halt its campaign of destruction. The movement urged these countries, as well as other states and international organizations, to increase diplomatic and political pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration to end its ongoing “aggression and genocide” in Gaza.
“The continued silence and indecision by the international community, especially by permanent members of the UN Security Council, emboldens the Israeli occupation to escalate its crimes with impunity,” Hamas said.
The veto comes amid one of the deadliest periods in Gaza’s recent history, with reports of widespread destruction of homes, infrastructure, and essential services. Hospitals are overwhelmed, electricity and water supplies are scarce, and thousands of civilians are reportedly trapped under rubble following intensive Israeli bombardments. Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that Gaza is facing a catastrophic crisis, with children, women, and the elderly bearing the brunt of the attacks.
Hamas called upon the world to recognize the urgent need for intervention to protect Palestinian civilians and to hold Israel accountable for its violations of international law. The movement stressed that without international action, the ongoing siege and military operations will continue to devastate Gaza and compound the suffering of its population.
The US veto has drawn widespread criticism from human rights groups, pro-Palestinian organizations, and civil society activists worldwide. Many observers have described it as a continuation of Washington’s unwavering support for Israeli military policies, which have repeatedly resulted in mass civilian casualties in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Hamas’ statement concluded with a call for global solidarity, urging countries and peoples around the world to raise their voices in opposition to the occupation, to demand accountability, and to act decisively to end the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza. (ILKHA)
