Hamas welcomes France’s move to recognize state of Palestine at UN

The Hamas Movement has expressed strong support for French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement that France intends to recognize the State of Palestine at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September.
In a statement released Thursday night, Hamas hailed the decision as a “positive step” and a significant move toward achieving justice for the Palestinian people.
Hamas emphasized that France’s recognition supports the Palestinian right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state encompassing all occupied territories, with Jerusalem as its capital. The group described the French position as an “important political development” that reflects growing international acknowledgment of the Palestinian cause and the failure of Israel to obscure the realities of the occupation.
The statement further urged other nations, particularly in Europe, to emulate France’s decision and fully recognize the national rights of the Palestinian people. Hamas framed such recognitions as critical political and moral pressure on Israel, which it accused of ongoing “crimes, aggression, and genocidal war” against Palestinians in Gaza, as well as continued occupation and settlement expansion in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with Hamas positioning France’s move as a step toward reinforcing international support for Palestinian statehood and challenging Israel’s policies. (ILKHA)
