Humanitarian crisis deepens as Israeli siege blocks aid to refugee camps
Israeli occupation forces have continued their military assault on Tulkarem city and its refugee camp for the 29th consecutive day, while Nur Shams refugee camp remains under siege for the 16th straight day.
The ongoing operations include heavy military reinforcements, widespread home raids, and significant damage to infrastructure, according to local reports.
Israeli forces have deployed additional troops, including infantry units, throughout the streets and neighborhoods of Tulkarem and its refugee camp. Residents report that Israeli soldiers have forcibly entered homes, destroying their interiors, and have also taken over vacant houses to convert them into military outposts.
The siege has severely restricted movement in and out of both refugee camps. Relief teams attempting to deliver essential supplies—such as food, water, medicine, and infant formula—are being blocked, despite ongoing humanitarian appeals for access.
Eyewitnesses described worsening conditions for those trapped inside Tulkarem camp, particularly women, children, and the elderly. The continued destruction, along with disrupted electricity, water, and communication services, has exacerbated their suffering. Residents’ movement is severely restricted, putting lives at increasing risk.
In Nur Shams camp, Israeli troops are reportedly stationed across several neighborhoods, conducting aggressive house raids, interrogating residents, and inflicting widespread destruction. Civilians have also been subjected to repeated harassment and intimidation tactics.
Israeli forces have bolstered their presence along Nablus Road, the key route connecting Tulkarem and Nur Shams. Military vehicles, including bulldozers, have been deployed to obstruct traffic, surround residential buildings, and establish additional military outposts. Vehicles passing through the area are being stopped and searched, with passengers facing interrogations and harassment.
In Tulkarem city, Israeli military vehicles have disrupted daily life by obstructing movement, targeting vehicles, and raiding businesses in the southern neighborhood. Shop owners were reportedly assaulted and detained for hours before being released.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces stormed the Dhannaba area, east of Tulkarem, conducting searches at various intersections, although no arrests were reported.
The Israeli army has maintained the closure of the Jubara checkpoint, the main southern entrance to Tulkarem, for the 17th consecutive day. This blockade has effectively cut off the city from surrounding villages and other parts of the West Bank, further isolating residents and restricting their access to vital resources.
The ongoing siege, coupled with the denial of humanitarian aid, has raised significant concerns among human rights organizations. With thousands of civilians trapped under harsh conditions, appeals continue for urgent international intervention to end the blockade and ensure the delivery of essential supplies. (ILKHA)
