Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, called for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of US forces from Syria during a UN Security Council session on Tuesday, emphasizing it as crucial for Syria's peace and stability.
Speaking at the session focused on "The situation in the Middle East: (Syria)," Iravani highlighted ongoing humanitarian crises, foreign occupation, and terrorism affecting the Syrian people. He criticized certain Western nations for prolonging the conflict through unlawful occupation, sanctions, and politicizing refugee return and reconstruction efforts.
Iravani condemned US support for groups like Al-Nusrah Front (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham) and accused them of exploiting Syrian oil and wealth. He stressed the need to combat terrorism in Syria while protecting civilian lives and denounced Israel's actions against Syrian sovereignty, particularly in the Golan Heights.
Iran reiterated its commitment to a political resolution led by Syrians and supported UN efforts, including the resumption of the Constitutional Committee meetings without external interference. Iravani also urged international support for Syria's reconstruction and the safe return of refugees.
He criticized Western countries for insufficient humanitarian aid and urged donors to fulfill pledges to support Syria's humanitarian needs effectively. (ILKHA)
