Iranian President congratulates Iraqi Prime Minister on successful parliamentary elections
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian congratulated Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on the peaceful and successful completion of Iraq’s recent parliamentary elections.
In a phone call on Friday, President Pezeshkian described the elections as a clear reflection of “the genuine will of the Iraqi people” and hailed the process as a significant achievement that enhances the prestige of Iraq, calling it a testament to the country’s democratic values.
During the conversation, Pezeshkian also expressed hope that the upcoming term would see deeper and more cordial relations between Iran and Iraq across all sectors.
Prime Minister al-Sudani responded by thanking President Pezeshkian for his congratulations, emphasizing the strong and sincere ties between the two nations. He noted that this was Iraq’s sixth parliamentary election since the political system changed in 2003 and highlighted the transparency, calm, and success of the process nationwide.
Al-Sudani also pointed out that the election recorded the highest level of public participation since 2015, signaling growing trust in Iraq’s political system and the Iraqi people’s continued commitment to their democratic experience.
The Iraqi Prime Minister further expressed hope that the election results would positively contribute to Iraq’s ongoing development and progress in the coming years. He reiterated his commitment to strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation with Iran in all areas during the next term. (ILKHA)
