Iranian Speaker Ghalibaf: Peaceful nuclear program to accelerate despite attacks

Iranian parliament voted Wednesday to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), following recent acts of aggression targeting the country’s peaceful nuclear infrastructure.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, stated: “The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran will suspend its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency until the security of nuclear facilities is guaranteed.” The statement, carried by Fars News Agency, reflects Tehran’s firm stance against foreign interference and military threats.
Ghalibaf reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to the peaceful development of nuclear energy, emphasizing, “Iran’s peaceful nuclear program will progress at a faster pace.” The decision comes in the wake of unprovoked airstrikes launched by Israel on June 13, targeting Iranian military and nuclear sites under the pretext of unfounded claims that Iran was developing a nuclear weapon—allegations Iran has consistently and categorically rejected.
In a clear act of defense, Iran responded with precision strikes aimed at deterring further attacks. However, in a concerning expansion of the conflict, the United States intervened by launching airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, further escalating tensions and endangering regional stability.
After nearly two weeks of unjustified aggression from Israel and the United States, a ceasefire was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. The ceasefire follows 12 days of aerial combat in which Iran demonstrated both restraint and readiness in protecting its sovereignty and scientific progress.
Iran’s move to suspend IAEA cooperation is seen domestically as a necessary step to protect its nuclear scientists, infrastructure, and the nation’s right to peaceful technological advancement in the face of mounting external threats. Iranian officials have repeatedly reiterated that their nuclear program remains entirely peaceful and within the framework of international law.
With this latest development, Iran calls on the international community to condemn the violations of its sovereignty and to support genuine diplomatic efforts based on mutual respect, non-aggression, and the inalienable rights of nations to develop peaceful scientific capabilities free from coercion and double standards.
