Israeli far-right minister Ben-Gvir resigns over ceasefire in Gaza
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, a far-right figure notorious for his aggressive stance on Gaza, resigned on Sunday in protest against the ceasefire agreement aimed at halting Israel’s genocidal aggression in Gaza.
Ben-Gvir’s resignation, along with other ministers from his Otzma Yehudit party, came after the government confirmed the ceasefire would not be implemented until the release list of female Palestinian prisoners was finalized.
Despite the ceasefire deal being brokered, Israeli forces resumed airstrikes on Gaza at 8:30 AM, resulting in the deaths of at least nine Palestinians, with dozens more wounded. The continued bombardment reflects the ongoing brutality faced by the Palestinian people, as Israeli forces show no signs of ceasing their military operations.
Ben-Gvir's resignation highlights the deep divisions within Israel's government over the ceasefire, with his extreme right-wing views opposing any pause in Israel’s violence against Palestinians. His departure underscores the internal political pressure Israel faces over the mounting international and domestic calls for an end to the aggression on Gaza.
The ceasefire agreement, while delayed, was seen as a glimmer of hope for Palestinians who have suffered unprecedented losses in this ongoing war. As of now, the brutal cycle of violence continues unabated, with innocent civilians bearing the brunt of the Israeli occupation’s relentless attacks. (ILKHA)
