Israeli forces issue demolition orders for 12 Palestinian homes in Masafer Yatta
Israeli authorities have issued demolition notices targeting 12 Palestinian homes and residential structures in the Masafer Yatta area, south of Hebron, in the occupied West Bank, in part of an escalating campaign of displacement and land confiscation.
On Tuesday, Israeli forces reportedly raided the area and delivered final demolition orders affecting multiple families, including a notice handed directly to Fares Barqan, head of the Bireen Village Council, ordering the destruction of his home along with 11 other residential structures.
According to local sources, the demolition orders impact several Palestinian families, including those of Abdullah Adel Barqan, Emrizq al-Faqir, Khaled al-Azazmeh, and Saif Atef Barqan, raising renewed fears of forced displacement in the already vulnerable rural communities of Masafer Yatta.
Local officials and residents argue that the latest demolition orders are part of a broader Israeli policy aimed at expanding illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank while systematically restricting Palestinian construction and development.
Fares Barqan stated that the ongoing escalation of demolitions and military activity in the area reflects an intensifying effort to seize Palestinian land and push indigenous communities out of their homes.
Human rights organizations have long warned that demolition policies in Masafer Yatta contribute to the gradual displacement of Palestinian residents, many of whom have lived in the area for generations and depend on agriculture and livestock for their livelihoods.
Masafer Yatta, a collection of small Palestinian hamlets in the southern West Bank hills, has been a frequent focal point of demolition orders and military-designated restrictions, with residents repeatedly facing eviction threats and infrastructure destruction.
Local communities continue to appeal for international protection, arguing that repeated demolition campaigns violate international law and contribute to worsening humanitarian conditions in the occupied territories.
As tensions persist across the West Bank, residents of Masafer Yatta say they remain committed to staying on their land despite what they describe as sustained pressure and attempts at forced displacement. (ILKHA)
