Japan conducts Fuji Firepower Exercise showcasing ground force readiness
Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force carried out the annual Fuji Firepower Exercise, one of the country’s largest military training activities, demonstrating coordinated combat operations involving land and air units.
The exercise took place at a training ground in the city of Gotemba, where tanks, armored vehicles, artillery systems and air support assets operated in a coordinated combat scenario.
Troops descending from helicopters using ropes conducted simulated operations as part of the exercise, while armored units advanced toward designated targets and carried out live-fire drills.
During the exercise, targets were struck using mortars, armored platforms and helicopters as forces demonstrated integrated battlefield coordination.
Joint operation scenarios conducted across mountainous terrain highlighted interoperability between ground and air components, reflecting Japan’s emphasis on rapid deployment and operational coordination.
The Fuji Firepower Exercise is widely regarded as one of the most significant military demonstrations organized by Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force, serving as a platform to display operational readiness and defense capabilities amid a changing regional security environment.
The exercise comes as Japan continues efforts to strengthen its defense posture in response to growing security concerns in the Asia-Pacific region, including tensions surrounding regional maritime disputes and military activity in neighboring areas.(ILKHA)
