The Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, issued an urgent appeal on Tuesday, calling for a safe corridor to deliver essential aid to northern Gaza’s healthcare facilities and to protect medical staff and patients from escalating Israeli attacks.
“We urge the world to provide relief aid to the healthcare system in northern Gaza, including Kamal Adwan Hospital, Al-Awda Hospital, and the Indonesian Hospital,” Dr. Abu Safiya said in a statement.
Abu Safiya reported that Israeli military forces advanced near Kamal Adwan Hospital on Monday, deploying explosive robots and destroying internal doors. The attack injured 20 individuals, including five medical staff members.
“The destruction was horrific,” he said, adding that Israeli drones, equipped with explosive boxes, were seen hovering near the hospital on Tuesday morning.
Abu Safiya described the ongoing bombings as “horrifying,” with explosions impacting hospital departments, staff, and surrounding buildings. “The world must understand that our hospital is being targeted with the intent to kill and forcibly displace us,” he said.
The hospital director urged the international community to intervene swiftly to halt the assault, safeguard the health system, and protect the lives of workers and patients.
Since Monday, Kamal Adwan Hospital has been hit repeatedly, with bombs landing in its courtyards and on its rooftop, damaging fuel and oxygen supplies critical for patient care. On Sunday, Abu Safiya accused Israeli forces of directly targeting the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Over the past 14 months, Israeli attacks have devastated Gaza, displacing nearly all of the region’s 2.3 million residents. More than 45,000 people, primarily women and children, have been killed in the offensive, according to local health authorities.
Abu Safiya reiterated his plea for immediate international action to address the humanitarian crisis and protect Gaza’s embattled healthcare infrastructure. (ILKHA)
