France’s President Emmanuel Macron said Wednesday that Turkey’s warlike rhetoric was encouraging Azerbaijan to reconquer Nagorno-Karabakh.
“France is very concerned about the latest calls from Turkey to reconquer Karabakh. France will not allow this. I guarantee Armenia and Armenians, France will play its role. I have already discussed this with my Russian and American counterparts and in the EC,” Macron said.
On Sunday, heavy fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces erupted in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Two sides reported that there were dead and wounded both among civilians and military personnel.
On Tuesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu expressed support for Azerbaijan, saying that “We stand by Azerbaijan on the field and at the table. Now we want to solve this problem completely.” (ILKHA)
