Initial reports that indirect fire did not land on coalition Forces in Erbil tonight, said Spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve, Col. Wayne Marotto, in a statement on Twitter.
Wednesday night, 6 rockets landed near Erbil Airport in Kurdistan region of northern Iraq.
the area that rockets landed was close to Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI). It is still unclear whether the rockets aimed for this opposition group or US military base within the airport or both.
The missile attack was launched from the town of Bartella, which is controlled by the 30th Brigade in Al-Hashd, in Nineveh Governorate.
The area was captured from Kurdistan by Iran-backed Hashd militias in 2017, with implicit support from the US.
US army's defense system in Erbil didn't go active as rockets rocket fell far from US-led coalition base, according to the local sources.
“Initial reports that Indirect Fire did not land on Coalition Forces in Erbil tonight. There was no damage or casualties. Incident is under investigation,” Marotto said. (ILKHA)
