Russia’s Defense Ministry announced Wednesday that its forces have captured two villages in eastern and northeastern Ukraine, a development that comes as the conflict approaches its third anniversary.
The reported gains come ahead of potential peace talks, with both sides intensifying efforts to secure strategic territory.
Russian officials stated that troops seized the village of Novomlynsk in the northeastern Kharkiv region after crossing the Oskil River, which had previously served as a natural boundary between the opposing forces. Novomlynsk, situated east of Kharkiv, lies along a front line where Russian forces recently established a bridgehead and made significant territorial gains.
In addition to Novomlynsk, the Russian military claimed control of Baranivka, located north of the town of Ocheretyne. The capture of this village marks the latest in a series of advances in an area where Russian troops have been steadily progressing for months.
Moscow has repeatedly reported near-daily advances in eastern Ukraine as the conflict continues into its third year, highlighting the ongoing struggle for ground in the region. Further updates are awaited as both sides prepare for possible peace negotiations. (ILKHA)
