Trilateral meeting on TAP-500 electricity project held in Kabul

The first trilateral meeting on the TAP-500 electricity project was convened in Kabul, marking a significant step toward regional energy cooperation among Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Türkiye’s Çalık Holding group.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), Turkmenistan officials, and Çalık Holding. Discussions centered on initiating practical work on the project, establishing a roadmap, and clarifying the responsibilities of each party.
The TAP-500 electricity project is designed to transmit electricity from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan, passing key provinces such as Herat, Farah, Helmand, and Kandahar, before reaching Pakistan.
As the host country, Afghanistan stands to benefit significantly from the project. In addition to gaining access to electricity, the country is expected to earn approximately $100 million annually from transit fees.
During the meeting, officials from Turkmenistan and Çalık Holding commended Afghanistan's improved security environment, expressing optimism about implementing the project under the current conditions.
Participants agreed to hold regular meetings to address technical issues, accelerate progress, and ensure the successful execution of the TAP-500 initiative.
The project represents a crucial development for regional energy connectivity, promising economic benefits and strengthened cooperation among the involved nations. (ILKHA)
