Turkish Foreign Minister to attend OIC-Arab League Extraordinary Summit in Doha

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will participate in the Foreign Ministers Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)–Arab League Joint Extraordinary Summit in Doha, Qatar, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced.
The session, scheduled for Sunday, precedes the full leaders’ summit on September 15, which will bring together heads of state and government from OIC and Arab League member countries.
In a statement, the ministry said: “Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, will participate in the Foreign Ministers Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation-Arab League Joint Extraordinary Summit in Doha, Qatar, on 14 September 2025.”
This marks the third joint emergency gathering between the two organizations, following previous meetings in Riyadh in 2023 and 2024. Originally convened in response to Israel’s military operations in Gaza that began on October 7, 2023, the summit’s agenda has expanded to cover escalating conflicts across the Middle East, including incidents in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran.
The latest summit has been prompted by a more immediate crisis: an alleged Israeli strike on Qatari territory, described as a direct violation of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) sovereignty. Reports indicate that Israeli forces bypassed regional defenses, with speculation about potential U.S. involvement through the deactivation of radar systems. Leaders at the summit are expected to scrutinize these security lapses and discuss measures to reduce American influence in the region, citing failures in U.S. security guarantees.
High-profile attendees at the leaders’ summit include Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his Foreign Minister, signaling broad international participation.
The Foreign Ministers’ meeting today aims to lay the groundwork for coordinated diplomatic, political, and legal measures. Drawing from past summit outcomes, actions may include calls for international pressure to halt ongoing aggressions, the creation of media monitoring units to document violations against Palestinians, and initiatives to revive a comprehensive peace process based on international frameworks.
Türkiye, a key OIC member and host of previous summits, is expected to play a central role in advocating for de-escalation and fostering solidarity among Muslim and Arab nations.
As the summit unfolds in Doha, regional and international observers are watching closely for potential resolutions that could reshape alliances and strategic responses to the multifaceted crises affecting the Middle East. (ILKHA)
