Turkish Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş meets Tajikistan President Rahmon in historic Dushanbe visit
Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmuş, was officially received by President Emomali Rahmon during his historic visit to Dushanbe, marking the first parliamentary-level visit from Türkiye to Tajikistan.
Meeting at the Presidential Palace, Kurtulmuş described the visit as a milestone for bilateral relations and expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He emphasized the significance of strengthening cooperation between the two friendly and brotherly nations, particularly through enhanced parliamentary relations and joint initiatives.
Kurtulmuş highlighted the shared cultural, historical, and civilizational ties between Turks and Tajiks, noting that despite the physical distance, the two peoples are “friends at heart, united in spirit.” He also recalled Türkiye’s early recognition of Tajikistan following its independence, describing it as a historically significant act that continues to underpin close relations today.
During the visit, the Turkish delegation also planned to meet with Rustami Emomali, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan, to discuss avenues for deepening parliamentary cooperation and coordinating efforts in international assemblies. Kurtulmuş stressed that the visit would create opportunities for both countries to act jointly on global and regional issues.
“Central Asia is a region with significant potential within the new world order,” Kurtulmuş said. “As the bipolar world system fades, a multipolar and multi-centered global order is emerging. The region stretching from Central Asia to Türkiye, the Balkans, and Europe encompasses approximately 300 million people. We hope that stability and peace will be permanent and that cooperation between these countries and peoples will be strengthened. Türkiye continues to deepen its close relations with Central Asian countries, fostering regional rapprochement and strengthening people-to-people friendships.”
Kurtulmuş concluded that the visit aims to yield productive results, enhance mutual understanding, and further develop relations between Türkiye and Tajikistan, setting the stage for continued high-level exchanges between the two nations. (ILKHA)
