The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has reported that at least 74 Palestinian children were killed during the first seven days of 2025 due to ongoing violence in the Gaza Strip, including attacks targeting a unilaterally designated safe zone.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell highlighted the dire conditions for children in Gaza. She revealed that since December 26, eight infants and newborns have succumbed to hypothermia, exacerbated by freezing temperatures and inadequate shelter.

"More than a million Gazan children are living in makeshift tents that cannot withstand the winter weather," Russell said. "We have long warned that inadequate shelter, lack of access to nutrition and health care, dire health conditions, and now winter weather all put the lives of all children in Gaza at risk, with newborns and children with health conditions particularly at risk."

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate, with international organizations calling for immediate measures to protect children and ensure access to essential resources like food, medical care, and proper shelter. (ILKHA)
