Nooruddin Azizi, the Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met with a government delegation and representatives from Uzbekistan’s private sector to discuss enhancing economic cooperation and expanding trade opportunities between the two nations.
The Uzbek delegation, which had previously engaged with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, reiterated their interest in importing Afghan coal to balance trade between the two countries. The discussions underscored the importance of fulfilling commitments made during earlier engagements.
Minister Azizi expressed strong support for Uzbekistan’s private sector initiatives and proposed organizing up to five trade exhibitions annually at the Termez International Trade Center. This initiative aims to strengthen bilateral trade and showcase Afghan and Uzbek products to potential investors.
Key topics addressed during the meeting included the development of a preferential trade agreement, the establishment of a cement factory in Samangan province, and the creation of trade offices in both countries to facilitate smoother business interactions.
The joint Uzbek delegation’s visit to Kabul was in response to commitments made during the visit of Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister, Abdulla Aripov. In a significant boost to economic collaboration, trade contracts worth $4.5 million were signed between private sector representatives of both nations. The signing ceremony was attended by Mawlawi Ahmadullah Zahid, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce.
The discussions and agreements mark another step toward strengthening economic ties between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, reflecting both nations’ commitment to fostering regional trade and investment. (ILKHA)
