Türkiye's inflation remains high at 42.12% in January
The Turkish Statistical Institute announced on Monday that Türkiye's Consumer Price Index (CPI) for January 2025 has increased by a striking 42.12% compared to the same month last year, with a monthly rise of 5.03%.
A change in the general index was observed in the CPI with a 5.03% increase from the previous month, 5.03% from December of the previous year, 42.12% from the same month of the previous year, and a 56.35% increase based on the twelve months moving averages.
Among the main expenditure groups, transportation showed the lowest annual increase at 23.14%, while education experienced the highest annual increase at 99.93%. In terms of monthly changes, the clothing and footwear group saw a decrease of 5.17%, whereas the health sector witnessed the highest monthly increase at 23.57%.
In January 2025, of the 143 basic headings (Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose-COICOP 5 Digit Level) in the index, 13 basic headings decreased, 4 remained unchanged, and 126 increased.
The indicator for CPI with specified coverage (B) increased by 42.08% annually and 5.47% monthly. Excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and gold, the CPI saw a 5.47% increase from the previous month, 5.47% from December of the previous year, 42.08% from the same month of the previous year, and a 56.05% increase based on the twelve months moving averages in January 2025.
