Consumer confidence in Türkiye declines to 83.9 in April

Türkiye’s consumer confidence index fell by 2.3% in April, dropping to 83.9 from 85.9 in March, according to data released Tuesday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
The index, which is jointly calculated through the consumer tendency survey conducted by TurkStat and the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT), reflects household assessments and expectations regarding their financial situation and the general economy.
A reading below 100 points to a pessimistic outlook among consumers, while a value above 100 indicates optimism. April’s decline suggests growing public concern about the country's economic outlook amid inflationary pressures and cost-of-living challenges.
TurkStat is expected to release further breakdowns of the index components in its monthly bulletin, shedding light on changes in households’ spending tendencies, expectations for savings, and job market sentiment. (ILKHA)
