Türkiye’s agricultural producer prices surge nearly 30% annually

The Producer Price Index of Agricultural Products saw a 29.89% annual increase in February 2025, with a 2.70% rise on a monthly basis, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Monday.
The index, which uses 2020 as its base year, also saw a monthly increase of 2.70% in February 2025.
The Agriculture-PPI recorded a 5.52% increase compared to December of the previous year, while the twelve-month moving average showed a substantial rise of 42.60%, signaling persistent inflationary pressures in the sector.
Breaking down the monthly changes by sector, products of agriculture, hunting, and related services rose by 2.49%, forestry and logging products jumped by 6.80%, and fish, aquaculture, and related services increased by 5.20%.
Within the main agricultural groups, non-perennial crops saw a modest monthly increase of 0.61%, while perennial crops experienced a decline of 1.79%. Meanwhile, live animals and animal products posted a significant monthly rise of 5.93%.
The report highlighted citrus fruits as the subgroup with the highest annual price surge, soaring by 166.37%. On a monthly basis, tropical and subtropical fruits led the way, with prices climbing by 13.95%.
The sharp increases in agricultural producer prices are likely to add further pressure on consumer food prices, raising concerns about inflation and affordability in Türkiye’s economy. (ILKHA)
