HÜDA PAR holds march for elective Kurdish lessons in Cizre
HÜDA PAR held a significant march in Şırnak’s Cizre district to raise awareness about the importance of mother tongue education.
The event aimed to encourage parents and students to embrace elective courses in these languages, ensuring the preservation of Kurdish cultural and linguistic heritage.
The march was attended by HÜDA PAR Deputy Chairman and MP Şahzade Demir, along with members of the party’s central and local organizations, volunteers, and supporters. Participants carried banners written in Kurdish and distributed leaflets promoting elective lessons in the language.
Beginning at Huzur Mosque after Friday prayers, the march concluded in the backyard of the historic Red Madrasa, where Kurdish hymns were sung. Speaking in Kurdish, Deputy Chairman Şahzade Demir passionately called on the Kurdish community to protect their language and cultural identity.
“If we do not protect our language, if we do not read and learn, our descendants and grandchildren will forget their language, culture, and ancient history,” Demir stated, urging families to take action to preserve their heritage.
Demir highlighted the availability of elective courses in schools for students in grades 5 through 8, including Kurdish, the life of the Prophet, Islamic principles, and the Holy Quran. He urged parents and community leaders to encourage children to choose Kurdish lessons, emphasizing their critical role in sustaining the language.
“In one place, if 10 students do not choose these courses, the class cannot be opened. We need to emphasize this and ensure these classes are available,” Demir explained.
Demir also reminded attendees of the deep connection between Kurdish identity and Islamic values, stating: “The Kurdish people have found honor and glory with Islam. Let us direct our children to choose Kurdish lessons so that we do not forget our nature, our belief, our culture, and our ancient history.”
HÜDA PAR’s march in Cizre reflects a broader movement advocating for the recognition and preservation of Kurdish language and culture in the region. The event serves as a reminder of the importance of mother tongue education in maintaining linguistic diversity and cultural heritage. (ILKHA)
