Erdoğan, Mohamud pledge closer Türkiye–Somalia ties

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at the Presidential Complex in Ankara on Friday, reaffirming Türkiye’s steadfast support for Somalia and highlighting the deepening ties between the two nations.
During the high-level talks, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and current regional developments, with a strong focus on cooperation in security, development, and counterterrorism.
Erdoğan emphasized Türkiye’s enduring commitment to strengthening its partnership with Somalia, stating that “cooperation between Türkiye and Somalia will continue to grow stronger.” He noted that both countries are prepared to take further steps to enhance their relationship in various sectors, including defense, infrastructure, education, and humanitarian aid.
Reiterating Türkiye’s firm stance against terrorism, Erdoğan assured that Türkiye will continue to support the Somali people in their struggle against extremist threats. “Somalia’s efforts to achieve national unity in its fight against terrorism are of great importance,” Erdoğan said, underlining the strategic significance of stability in the Horn of Africa.
President Mohamud’s visit comes amid ongoing collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the fields of security and economic development. Türkiye has been a key ally of Somalia, offering military training, humanitarian assistance, and development aid since 2011.
