Erdoğan reaffirms support for Bosnia’s territorial integrity in call with Izetbegovic

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with Bakir Izetbegovic, Chairman of the Party of Democratic Action of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to discuss the escalating situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and broader regional developments.
Erdoğan emphasized Türkiye’s close monitoring of the situation, describing the rising tensions in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a pressing issue that must be resolved swiftly. “The increasing tension should be brought to an end as soon as possible, within the framework of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s constitutional order and the rule of law,” Erdoğan stated, reaffirming Türkiye’s commitment to the country’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and legal framework.
During the call, Erdoğan revealed that he had issued stern warnings to Milorad Dodik, President of Republika Srpska, one of Bosnia’s two entities, as part of Türkiye’s efforts to stabilize the region. He stressed that the current unrest does not reflect a clash between Bosnia’s founding peoples, urging political parties that uphold territorial unity to find common ground. “It’s critical for these parties to unite on a minimum consensus,” Erdoğan said, calling on the international community to take a firm stand against separatism.
The conversation highlighted Türkiye’s proactive role in supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina, a nation with which it shares deep historical and cultural ties. Erdoğan assured Izetbegovic that Ankara would continue to offer robust backing to safeguard Bosnia’s stability, signaling a diplomatic push to counter threats to its unity as regional challenges mount.
