Erdoğan, Sánchez discuss bilateral ties, Gaza crisis in phone call

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation on Saturday with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, focusing on bilateral relations, regional developments, and pressing global issues, according to a statement released by Ankara.
During the call, Erdoğan highlighted that significant and meaningful steps were taken during this year’s United Nations General Assembly to advance a genuine two-state solution in Palestine. He underlined that such efforts must be strengthened if lasting peace and justice are to be achieved in the region.
Erdoğan emphasized that the Israeli government’s actions clearly demonstrate its unwillingness to pursue peace. Stressing the urgency of the matter, he noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must be prevented from undermining and sabotaging international efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.
Reiterating Türkiye’s firm stance, Erdoğan assured that Ankara will continue to work actively for an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression against Gaza, while also striving to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches Palestinians without obstruction.
President Erdoğan also expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Sánchez’s sensitivity and support regarding the Global Sumud Flotilla, which is seeking to break the siege on Gaza and deliver aid by sea. He affirmed that Türkiye is closely following the developments surrounding the flotilla’s mission.
The discussion between the two leaders once again highlighted Ankara and Madrid’s alignment on key humanitarian and political issues, particularly their shared call for de-escalation in Gaza and their support for international initiatives to uphold Palestinian rights. (ILKHA)
