Speaking to Ilke News Agency regarding the proxy-animal sacrifice campaign they have launched with the slogan "Let Your Sacrifice Be Hope", Cengiz Kurtaran, Chairman of the Hope Caravan, said: “We, as Hope Caravan, started our 2022 sacrifice work. This year, we will organize the proxy-animal sacrifice campaign in approximately 25 countries, including our country. We have completed our preparations.”
“People in Asia, especially Afghanistan, face unprecedented hunger crisis. We will distribute meat to our brothers there. We will carry out sacrifice organizations in Bangladesh, Arakan, Nepal, and Yemen. For the Asian countries, we will slaughter a sacrificial animal for 100 euros. Since the prices of sacrificial animals are high in Yemen, we will slaughter a sacrificial animal for 150 euros there. It is very hard to buy sacrificial animals in Palestine. Livestock has to be smuggled into Gaza through tunnels. Therefore, we determined the price of a sacrifice as 300 Euros there. Donors can donate their sacrificial animals to us on our website www.umutkervani.org, ” he added.
Eid al-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice) is the latter of the two official holidays which are celebrated within Islam (the other being Eid al-Fitr). It honors the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to Allah's command.
Before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, however, God provided him with a lamb that he was supposed to kill in his son's place. In commemoration of this intervention, animals are ritually slaughtered.
In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and lasts for four days. In the international (Gregorian) calendar, the dates vary from year to year, shifting approximately 11 days earlier each year. (ILKHA)
