HÜDA PAR condemns Leman magazine for caricature insulting Prophet Muhammad

HÜDA PAR issued a scathing condemnation of Leman Magazine on Tuesday, accusing the publication of insulting Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and Prophet Moses through a provocative caricature.
The party labeled the act a "clear hate crime" and a "heavy insult" to Muslims, drawing comparisons to the controversial French magazine Charlie Hebdo.
In a statement from HÜDA PAR’s Human Rights and Legal Affairs Directorate, the party denounced the caricature as an attack on religious values and vowed to pursue legal action. “This heinous act has once again demonstrated the necessity of HÜDA PAR’s law proposal to punish insulting religious values,” the statement read. “We are following the legal process with our lawyers and will meticulously ensure that the perpetrators face criminal sanctions.”
Batman MP Serkan Ramanlı echoed the party’s outrage, stating, “Such hateful attacks target not only people of faith but also the peace of the whole society. It is neither the right nor the prerogative of anyone to insult our religious and spiritual values. The law must respond immediately.”
The Party Spokesperson Yunus Emiroğlu further emphasized the urgency of a proposed law to penalize insults against religious figures, submitted to Parliament the previous week. “Leman’s insolence has revealed how necessary this proposal is,” Emiroğlu said. “Insulting our Messenger of Allah cannot be considered freedom. We will never forget this insolence, and it should not go unpunished.”
The controversy has reignited debates over freedom of expression and the need for legal protections for religious sanctities in Türkiye, with HÜDA PAR calling for swift action to address the magazine’s actions. (ILKHA)
