Magnitude 4.0 earthquake strikes Bursa province in northwestern Türkiye

A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale hit the Nilufer district of Bursa province in northwestern Türkiye on Friday, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
The tremor, which struck at 13:43 local time (TSI), was recorded at a depth of 9.74 kilometers. The epicenter was located at coordinates 40.19444°N, 28.95056°E, within the Nilufer district.
No immediate reports of injuries or major damage have been reported. However, the earthquake caused some concern among local residents.
Türkiye, known for its high seismic activity, regularly experiences earthquakes due to its location on several major fault lines. The country has stringent building regulations and safety protocols in place to mitigate the effects of seismic events. Despite most quakes being of low to moderate intensity, Türkiye has a history of catastrophic earthquakes leading to significant damage and loss of life.
