Nechirvan Barzani elected as the new head of KRG

The Iraqi Kurdistan Administration parliament elected Nechirvan Barzani as the head of KRG.
The presidential elections in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) were completed.
Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani of the regional administration was elected new president by the regional parliament.
The candidate of the Democratic Party of Kurdistan (KDP), Barzani, received 68 votes at a parliamentary session with 84 deputies today.
The second-largest party in the region, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) with 21 seats in the parliament and the New Generation movement boycotted the session.
The presidency in the KRG has been vacant since 1 November 2017, when the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani resigned after the September 2017 referendum on independence.
Nechirvan Barzani
Nechirvan Barzani, the grandson of Mele Mistefa Barzani, the founder of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), was born in 1966 in the village of Barzani. His father was Idris Barzani.
Nechirvan Barzani went to Iran in 1975 in the face of the persecution of the Iraqi Baathist regime. He graduated from the Political Science Department of Tehran University in 1984.
In 1989, he was elected to the party administration at the 10th Congress of the KDP.
In 1996, he was the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Government.
In 1999 he was elected Prime Minister.
Between 2006 and 2009, he headed two cabinet governments.
From 2012 to 2014, he served as the Prime Minister in the seventh cabinet.
In addition to his position as the Prime Minister, he also served as the Deputy Chairman of KDP.
Nechirvan Barzani, who is married to Nebile Barzani, has 5 children, 3 boys, and 2 girls.
In addition to the Kurdish language, the mother tongue, Nechirvan Barzani also speaks Farsi, English, and Arabic. He is interested in Kurdish and Persian literature and poetry. (ILKHA)
