Turkish Foreign Ministry to visit Algeria

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will begin a two-day official visit to Algeria on April 20 to strengthen bilateral ties and engage in high-level strategic discussions, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced.
Fidan will co-chair the third Türkiye–Algeria Joint Planning Group meeting with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, focusing on advancing the strategic partnership between the two nations. The visit will include preparations for the upcoming High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, set to coincide with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s planned trip to Türkiye.
During his visit, Fidan is expected to meet President Tebboune and inaugurate the new Turkish Consulate General in Oran, expanding Türkiye’s diplomatic footprint in Algeria. The agenda will prioritize negotiations on agreements to bolster the legal and institutional framework of bilateral relations, with a goal of reaching a $10 billion trade volume.
Energy security will be a key focus, with Fidan highlighting Algeria’s vital role in supporting Türkiye’s energy needs. Discussions will also explore joint ventures in the defense industry, emphasizing mutual technological collaboration.
Beyond bilateral issues, Fidan and Algerian officials will address regional and global concerns, including developments in the Sahel, Libya, Syria, and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The visit underscores Türkiye’s commitment to deepening ties with North African nations and reinforcing its role in Mediterranean and African affairs. (ILKHA)
